MANOA INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE (MIX)

At the University of Hawaii at Manoa, students can go through the MIX Program or the Study Abroad Center (SAC). I decided to go with the MIX Program because they offer a semester abroad in Korea, whereas the SAC only offers a summer program abroad in Korea as of Fall 2024. The MIX Program is great for students who plan to study abroad in Asia as they offer a wider range of universities to study at.

Before making a decision on which program to choose, do your research on the university you would like to attend and the differences between the MIX and SAC programs.

Details on applying for MIX can be found here.

To apply for the MIX study abroad program, you need to apply a year in advance.

E.g. I applied Fall 2023 to study abroad in Fall 2024

The application consists of a Google form with personal information and short questions about your reasons for studying abroad. In addition to the Google form, you will need a letter of recommendation.

Before choosing your Top 5 universities, make sure to check for course equivalencies or courses offered.

You can also check the partner schools' websites to see previous courses offered during the fall and spring semesters

Next Steps

Once you complete the application, you will receive an email regarding which partner school you are nominated for. The email will contain information on what to expect and assignments.

Assignments include:
- MIX nomination form (accept/deny your nomination)
- Canvas online orientation
- Welcome Orientation (Zoom)

After completing the Canvas online orientation, you will receive a Pre-Departure Checklist with deadlines.

Additionally, the email will mention that a NEXT STEPS email will be sent later when it is time to apply for your partner university's application.
